“If your spine is inflexible and stiff at 30, you’re old. If it is flexible at 60, you’re young.  A man is as young as his spine.”

What is Pilates?

Pilates was originally created for dancers by Joseph Pilates. However these days both the fitness industry and medical/rehabilitation experts are seeing the physical advantages of applying his techniques.

Pilates is a low impact exercise program with specific moves focused on increasing flexibility, strengthening the body’s core (or rather the “body’s power house” as Joseph Pilates liked to called it), and improving overall posture, making it suitable for men and women of all ages.

Pilates has been proven to be effective at decreasing back pain, helping with coordination and improving performance of a number of sports related activities.

I practise the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) method. APPI is a world leader in Pilates Teacher Training programs having modified 34 Pilates matwork exercises based on scientific evidence so they can be use as a clinical tool in a professional health care setting.

Each exercise can be modified to provide different intensity levels to suit all individuals - whatever their physical requirements and improvements. This approach is also suitable for rehabilitations to speed up recovery from the injury or seek ways to reduce any physical pain.
